Tomorrow is the birth anniversary of G D Agarwal, that pious revolutionary. You all know that he passed away fasting for 118 days, wanting restoration of the glory of Ganga Mai. He was equally passionate about keeping Shiv ji’s abode, the great Himalaya as it ought to be, clean green and peaceful. We failed him. Ganga Mai remains dirty. And, Himalaya is crumbling at the weight of, what we call tourism and super-development.
Agarwal ji used to ask: why should we have helicopters, and planes, and four lane highways, on shiv ji’s abode? God is meant to be difficult to reach, isn’t it? He would laugh and continue: Shiv ji could have constructed a Mumbai thousands of year back, if he wanted to be accessible to easy life and tourism. Think hard.
